March 14-15 Ski Adventures

Last week when we were at Nellie and Andrews we were talking about skiing/snowboarding. They mentioned a place in North Carolina we should look into since that’s the are we were going to be in. Sure enough, they are still open and since that cold front blew in and dropped some snow, we figured we would take advantage of the opportunity and let some of the bigger kids try it!

We stopped off at some thrift stores and grabbed a few ski items the kids needed as we were on our way to Steph and Brian’s.

Stephen and the oldest 7 (down to Gus) got to go! Stephanie went, NellieMae, Andrew, Leslie, and Lauren all met them there and they spent 2 days hitting the slopes! Some chose snowboards, some chose skis, and then they were able to swap with each other as they wanted to as long as their shoe size was similar enough. We are so grateful for all the time and investment each of these friends and family have put into our children. So selfless of them to teach and encourage them for 2 days! Thank y’all so much! This is a memory they will have the rest of their life!

The second day, Stephanie and Martin ended up staying home. Martin took a tumble and was stopped by some trees and hurt his back. He is moving slow and even though would have loved to ski a second day, I told him he needed to let his back heal. So he hung out with me and the younger half. The kids and I went on a picnic and did some exploring. I found myself singing the song I remember my mom teaching me when I was little, and then me teaching my older ones about 13 years ago when they were much younger. The words are simple, the tune easy, and the message so true.

“My God is so GREAT! So strong and so MIGHTY, there’s nothing my God cannot do! The mountains are His, the rivers are His, the stars are His handiwork too. My God is so GREAT! So strong and so MIGHTY, there’s nothing my God cannot do….for you!

Everyone has come back with such fun stories. So grateful this group could be together and have such a good time! The weather was so beautiful and just perfect for their 2 days on the slopes.

The little boys and Onna got to go with aunt Steph and do a trash run. On their way back she got them some French fries. She is so sweet to make a memory with each child if at all possible.

Marilla and Sonora and I busied ourselves with straightening some wood piles the kids worked on earlier in the week.
