March 11 Work Day

One thing we enjoy doing as a family is serving others. Sometimes there are jobs for everyone, sometimes not. Today, just about everyone got to pitch in and help with a project or two. Brian and Stephanie made it clear they didn’t want us to feel obligated to work on anything, but we also made it clear that we want to be a blessing to them and love to work together. So they outlined some jobs, and Stephen assigned teams to work together to get those jobs done. The weather was perfect to get all the things done. The high was about 62. Really cold weather is blowing in overnight and bringing some rain, so we used the whole day to get things done while we could.

Stephanie and the girls made a nice rock pad by their fire pit with some rock. it turned out so beautiful! They even “decorated” it with some flowers.

Stephen and the boys worked on clearing a bunch of small pine trees. Many hands make light work!

Stephen and the kids felled 4 big trees along the woods and backyard area. Brian and Bella used his wood chipper and the branches from those trees to make mulch for the path around the back of their house to help minimize the muddiness. James and Stephen cleared the hillside of trees and tall grass/brush. Martin dug up some stumps and did some dirt work, some watched kids, others played and made tiny forts.

We finished the day by enjoying supper outside on the new stone area around the fire pit and on the back porch area. Every time Martin sits down after working for several hours, he says, “ the gift of rest” and takes a big sigh. There is the gift of work, the gift of family, the gift of fellowship and the gift of rest, and we all got to experience those today. We are blessed!
