After leaving Hahnville, LA at 8:30 am, we headed out for what the map said would be a nice easy 4 and a half hour drive. For some reason, it took us 8 hours! Not sure why it takes us so long! I guess it’s the potty stops, shopping for groceries, filling up both vehicles 2 times, getting ice for our “freezer” full of beef, stopping by the bank…maybe that has something to do with the time discrepancy!

We made it to the Conecuh National Forest in southern Alabama and ended up finding the best spot to camp! We found a nicely shredded meadow in the midst of the 80,000 acre forest, which was perfect for our whole set up, plus room to play! There was even a running creek that was less than 300 yards away. We set up camp and cooked supper as it was getting dark. We are learning how to be most efficient with our manpower, time, space etc.

The next day we all went down to the creek. The kids played and swam, we washed dishes, washed clothes, and took showers. It was so fun! Now I know why people in the old days designated a day for washing though. It took everyone to help haul things and get it all accomplished! Stephen invested in a wonderful hot water shower system that worked SO well! It’s called the Joolca and we love it so far! We drafted water from the creek and heated it up with the water heating system and took hot showers in the pop up shower! Amazing!!
